Relationship Marketing for Coaches

If you are struggling to start or grow your coaching practice you will need to take a look at your marketing methods. You need a good marketing strategy that you are comfortable with if you are ever going to grow a thriving business. Many coaches struggle with marketing that feels too pushy or salesy, so in this article we will look at relationship marketing which feels more comfortable and authentic and therefore you are more likely to work more consistently.

The kind of relationship marketing I am referring to is building relationships via email with your list of subscribers. You invite people to join your email list by offering them useful information in the form of a free report or mini ebook or course. Then you can keep in touch with them via email.

Many coaches learn that they need to build an email list, but then they only ever send a newsletter to their list. This is OK, but it misses the potential of actually interacting with your subscribers via email. If you only send a newsletter to your list then you are on 'transmit only' mode - if you have ever been in a relationship with someone who communicates in this way, you know how unpleasant it can be to be on the receiving end!

When I talk about building a relationship with your list I am talking about a real relationship, which involves two way communication. Yes, you do need to provide useful content, though there are more effective ways than only using a newsletter, but you also need to ask your subscribers questions, allow them to give their input.

You can use surveys and questionnaires to do this, but the most effective - and natural - way is to simply ask them questions. Remember that your subscribers are real people and that they will appreciate being treated as such. Ask them questions, respond to their questions, in this way you will be building real relationships and people who have a relationship with you are much more likely to become your clients.
